Chunjiang Mingyue Courtyard Residence | Reconstructing the Layers and Warmth of Eastern Living

Contemporary Eastern living is no longer merely a symbolic expression, but a holistic narrative about order, emotion, and lifestyle. Designed by Simba, this Chinese-style courtyard residence for “Chunjiang Mingyue” integrates restrained material language and delicate lighting design, blending traditional artistic conception into modern living scenarios while achieving a subtle balance between functionality and aesthetics.

Garage
This garage space goes beyond being a mere “functional container” and is redefined as the first layer of spatial experience upon entering the residence. The wall-mounted storage system neatly displays cycling helmets and tools, balancing practicality with exhibition. “A garage is not just for parking, but an extension of lifestyle taste,” a concept fully realized here.

Elevator Lobby Entrance
The moment the elevator doors open, the atmosphere gently embraces you. Symmetrical vertical light strips and warm wooden finishes create a ceremonial interface. At the center, a landscape-inspired art installation expresses Eastern aesthetics in an abstract form. Light softly spills from both sides, like a brushstroke in a blank painting, guiding a psychological transition from the outside world to a private domain.

Game Room (Mahjong Room)
The room continues a restrained color palette, dominated by low-saturation gray and wood tones. A custom game table sits at the center, surrounded by soft, upholstered seating for comfort. Wall-mounted scroll art and warm lighting strips intertwine, combining traditional elegance with modern neatness. It serves as both a social space and a place for mental relaxation.

Entrance Foyer
The foyer emphasizes spatial “interface” design. Large blank walls combined with metal framing and hidden lighting create a sculptural visual focus. One side displays art pieces, while the other extends the space through transparent materials. Rather than complex decoration, proportion and light define a sense of calm and sophistication at first glance.

Home Theater
The theater creates an immersive experience: dark fabric walls absorb stray light, and a starry ceiling extends like a night sky, forming a private and atmospheric viewing environment. Low sofas and soft carpets create a sense of enclosure, while lighting is strictly controlled to keep visual focus on the screen—an ideal space for emotional release and family bonding.

Dining Room
Centered around a round table, the dining room reflects the Eastern concept of reunion. Stone flooring and metallic lighting fixtures create a light-luxury base, while red floral arrangements add emotional warmth.A display wall neatly showcases tea sets and tableware, combining exhibition and collection. The space suits both formal banquets and everyday family meals.

Tea Room
One of the most distinctly Eastern spaces, the tea room features an open tea table with layered shelving. Objects appear serene under light and shadow. The design emphasizes a “pauseable” spatial rhythm—slowing down sightlines, lighting, and movement to deepen the connection between people and space.

Meditation Room
This room creates a spiritual field through minimalism. Wooden lattice screens partially divide the space without blocking it.Low seating and natural light allow for meditation, contemplation, or simply daydreaming. The design avoids visual tension, focusing instead on inner order.

Kitchen
A modern minimalist design with dark cabinetry contrasting sharply with stone countertops. Linear lighting enhances horizontal extension, making the space feel more open. Built-in appliances ensure visual cleanliness and efficiency—a model of function and aesthetics combined.

Elevator Hall
As a vertical circulation node, it is designed as a quiet transitional space. Hidden lighting and wood finishes create layered light and shadow, turning every movement between floors into a soothing experience.

Collection Room
Glass cabinets and lighting systems transform collections into visual focal points. A combination of wine storage and display shelving offers both functionality and gallery-like refinement. Internal lighting highlights each item as if on its own stage.

Bedroom
The bedroom returns to warmth and comfort. A soft green background wall with floral and bird elements introduces gentle Eastern charm. A low, wide bed enhances stability and security, while symmetrical pendant lights add order and detail.

Bar Area
“Believe it or not, this is more than just a bar.” This space serves both social interaction and emotional transition. Dark cabinetry contrasts with warm lighting, while a glowing panel beneath the island adds lightness. A semi-open connection to the living room allows seamless transitions—from a solitary coffee to casual gatherings.

Kitchen
Defined by clean, sharp lines. Beige cabinetry and a large stone backdrop create brightness and depth. Built-in appliances and hidden storage maintain a tidy look, while linear lighting enhances functionality. Everything is centered on efficiency and comfort—a modern Eastern functional space.

Housekeeper’s Room
Designed with practicality first while maintaining warmth. Though compact, niches and soft lighting create a tidy, organized feel. Neutral bedding and simple decor provide a quiet, comfortable resting environment.

Living Room
The visual and emotional core of the floor. A large blue textured stone wall becomes the focal point, contrasted by curved sofas and a round rug. A starry ceiling echoes the night sky, adding artistic tension. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring in courtyard views, blurring indoor and outdoor boundaries.

Bedroom
Focused on calmness and healing. Soft textile walls combined with stone elements, with hidden lighting creating a cocoon-like effect. The restrained warm palette encourages relaxation, emphasizing sleep quality over visual display.

Laundry Room
A highly integrated functional module. A full wall of cabinetry embeds washing and drying appliances while providing ample storage. Hidden lighting improves usability, turning daily chores into an efficient and orderly experience.

Elevator Entrance
Continues the overall design language with a lighter feel. Herringbone wood flooring enhances texture, while wall art and lighting create a visual center. This space acts as a buffer, smoothing transitions between floors.

Guest Bedroom
Prioritizes comfort and simplicity. Balanced proportions and soft neutral fabrics create a warm yet understated atmosphere. Minimal wall decoration ensures a relaxing environment for short stays.

Guest Walk-in Closet
Transparent glass cabinet doors combined with wood finishes turn storage into display. Even lighting ensures visibility, enhancing both efficiency and visual enjoyment.

Master Bedroom
The most ceremonial and private space in the residence. A gold-toned lighting installation on the feature wall, combined with Eastern botanical patterns, creates a layered visual effect. A centered bed and symmetrical furniture reinforce order, achieving both stability and elegance.

Master Walk-in Closet
Further elevates private living quality. Wood finishes and glass cabinets create warmth with modernity. Vertical lighting highlights each garment, while the layout connects seamlessly to the bathroom, achieving true “suite-style living.”

This Chinese courtyard residence weaves function, emotion, and culture into a layered spatial narrative. Rather than emphasizing traditional symbols, designer Simba allows an Eastern sensibility to emerge naturally through proportion, light, and materiality.
