From Idea to Peace of Mind — Lily’s Journey to Creating the Perfect Kids’ Room

In a quiet, welcoming neighborhood in California, Lily’s life revolves around both creativity and family. As an illustrator, she has a natural sensitivity to color and space. As a mother of twins, she cares deeply about whether every part of her home truly supports her children’s growth.

As her kids got older, their original bedroom no longer fit their needs—storage felt chaotic, the space was cramped, and it lacked functional flexibility. Lily knew she didn’t just need new furniture—she needed a complete rethink of the space.

That’s when she found izzaliving.

Step 1: Listening Before Designing

In our first conversation, we didn’t rush into solutions. Instead, we took the time to understand how Lily and her family actually live:

  • She wanted her children’s environment to feel both free and structured
  • She preferred to avoid overly bright, trend-driven kids’ designs that quickly feel outdated
  • She cared most about long-term usability

These insights became the foundation of the entire project.

Step 2: Turning Ideas into a Clear Spatial Plan

After fully understanding her needs, we helped Lily define the essential structure of the room:

A sleep zone that provides comfort and a sense of independence

A play area that encourages exploration and creativity

A storage system that helps build organization habits

A reading corner designed to grow with their learning needs

Once the functions were clearly defined, the space naturally began to feel more organized and intentional.

Step 3: Refining Every Detail Together

Throughout the design process, we stayed in close communication with Lily, fine-tuning every detail:

  • Is the bed height safe and easy for the kids to use?
  • Are the storage compartments intuitive and practical?
  • Does the layout allow for smooth, safe movement?
  • Do the colors feel soft and balanced under different lighting conditions?

Many of these details may seem small—but they’re what make the difference. Through ongoing discussions, Lily evolved from having general ideas to becoming an active, confident collaborator in shaping the space.

Step 4: Custom Design That Truly Fits

Unlike off-the-shelf furniture, this project centered around a fully customized approach.

We carefully planned:

  • The proportions and placement of the beds
  • The structure and height of the storage system
  • The spacing and flow between each piece
  • The result is a room that feels cohesive from the start—rather than something pieced together over time.

Step 5: A Space That Grows with the Kids

One of Lily’s biggest priorities was ensuring the room wouldn’t feel outdated as her children grow.

So we intentionally avoided:

  • Overly childish shapes or themes
  • Strong decorative elements that quickly go out of style
  • Instead, we focused on:
  • A soft, natural color palette
  • Flexible layouts that can adapt over time
  • A structure that evolves with the children’s needs

This is a room designed not just for today—but for the years ahead.

Lily’s Perspective

At one point during the process, Lily shared something that really stayed with us:

“I don’t feel like I’m just receiving a design—I feel like we’re building this home together.”

That’s exactly the kind of relationship we strive for.

This isn’t about delivering a finished product—it’s about creating something meaningful, together.

About izzaliving

We believe a well-designed space should do more than just look good. It should:

  • Reflect how you actually live
  • Stand the test of time
  • Support the rhythms of everyday life

And nowhere is that more important than in a child’s room.

It’s not just a phase—it’s the beginning of a journey of growth.

If you’re thinking about creating a space that feels warmer, more organized, and truly supportive of your child’s development, it might start with a deeper conversation.
