From a Dark, Awkward Triangle to a Bright Airbnb Retreat — A Transformation in Progress

Today, we want to share a unique project we’re currently working on for our client, Alex—a truly unconventional triangular home.

Alex is an Airbnb investor who’s always been drawn to properties with character. But this particular home came with more than its fair share of challenges:

  • Very limited natural light—sunlight barely reached the interior
  • Sloped walls on both sides, making the layout inefficient and difficult for furniture placement
  • Poor insulation and ventilation, which would make long-term stays uncomfortable

He came to us with a clear goal: transform this space into something bright, comfortable, and appealing to future Airbnb guests.

Our Design Approach

1. Bringing in the Light
The front of the house originally had very small windows. Our plan is to introduce large glass panels to maximize natural light in the main living area. Once the light comes in, the entire space will feel more open, airy, and inviting. This is the most critical step in the transformation.

2. Creating Functional Zones
The original layout lacked clear flow, so we’re rethinking the space with a dual living area concept:

  • A main living room for socializing and gatherings
  • A secondary lounge/dining area for quieter meals or coffee time

This approach gives each space a clear purpose while also making the home more flexible for hosting Airbnb guests.

3. Working with the Angles
Instead of fighting the sloped walls, we’re embracing them. Custom low-profile furniture will follow the lines of the walls, while soft furnishings and strategic lighting will help visually soften the sharp angles. The goal is to make the space feel cohesive and comfortable rather than awkward.

4. A Warm, Natural Aesthetic
We’re going with a soft, creamy palette paired with natural wood textures, layered with cozy fabrics and playful decorative touches. The result will be a space that feels warm, relaxed, and visually appealing—perfect for both everyday living and share-worthy Airbnb moments.

The home is still under construction, but its potential is already taking shape. With improved lighting, a more thoughtful layout, and a cohesive design direction, this once “awkward” triangular house is gradually becoming a space that works beautifully for both living and hosting.

Alex is especially excited to see it come to life—not just as a comfortable home, but as a distinctive Airbnb listing that will stand out and attract guests.
